2016-07 FTHC In-Service:
Confidentiality
Congress passed the
Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act (HIPPA) in 1996. This
law was passed to keep health information private
and secure. This law applies to all health
care providers. It is important to keep all
information, e.g., name, address, telephone number,
social security number, and medical records,
private.
Caregivers can only share this
information with others who are
directly
involved in the case. For example, if you have been
assigned a client, you are not at liberty to share
that client's name or information with other
caregivers of FTHC unless they too are
directly working
with that client. There are severe penalties for
violating a client's privacy.
